I saw this story on the New York Times website and had to share it. Cain, author of Quiet: The Power Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking, gave a great speech about how it feels to be a less talkative person in a chatty culture.
As someone who has always been “quiet,” this totally spoke to me. I’m thrilled to hear someone talk about the bias that exists in our culture for those who are super chatty.
Ever been graded lower than your peer on a subject that you know you are more informed about, but yet they receive the better grade because they just talk, and talk, and talk, and talk about nonsense!?
In one of my college class discussions a few years ago, a classmate actually said, “You have to cut the umbilical string and let them flap their wings.” That is not a lie.
Speak out against introvert bias! Or… um, just listen politely. Get Quiet in the old-fashioned form or for your Kindle here on Amazon.
